“TURKEY - Artists ((.....)) criticising Spotify on live TV
Updated on 21.05.2024, 11:30 AM
What happened?
• On a talk show for TV on 20th May 2024, (TV8 channel - a national TV channel) presented by (.....) (a pop artist since early '00s) and (.....), the presenters and their guest (.....) (pop artist) criticize Spotfify’s editorial playlists and how those playlists are, allegedly, unjust.
• The show is called “(.....)” and the concept is to host guests from various occupations - most commonly artists, musicians, and experts on popular topics. (.....), broadcasted on TV8, which is a national TV channel, can also be streamed on YouTube and on TV8’s own website. It is a live talk show and the mentioned episode is the 145th, and it is 1:30 hours in total. Guest (.....) comes on the studio around 00:27:00. Spotify criticism goes on until around 00:54:00.
• On this specific episode, they have (.....) as a guest. The episode is titled “Critical Statements About the Music Industry” on the YouTube caption, and is specifically dedicated to critical comments about Spotify’s editorial playlists, especially the editors of the playlists for Turkey. They direct criticism also for the upcoming EQUAL + Masterclass event. Both artists discredit the platform for even thinking to “educate” pop stars with a Masterclass.
• The starting point apparently is May 17th show on Friday. While there isn’t a direct “Spotify” mention, (.....) shows anger against her label (.....) as well as Spotify because her song was not included in the playlists and was not featured on the PL cover.
• On Friday’s show, (.....), who also is an artist with popular tracks in Turkish pop and arabesque genres in the 90s and 2000s, was the guest of (.....) and (.....) on the same programme on Friday, 17 May. Streaming platforms are mentioned for the first time in this programme. They criticize the rule of submitting the song 15 days in advance in order to be included in the playlists and criticize both streaming platforms (while complaining about the change in traditional music listening habits) and label companies. They claim that because the label companies were caught unprepared for this digital transformation and could not keep up with the change, people who understand digital but not music are effective about getting artists on the cover of PLs and entering these playlists.

metinde özetle; 20 Mayıs 2024 tarihinde TV8’de yayınlanan “(.....)” isimli talk Show
